Autumn Georgia yard half covered in fallen oak leaves with the other half cleared to green turf

Leaf Removal in Carrollton, GA

Leaf removal in Carrollton, GA — cleared off the lawn and out of the beds before a wet mat sits on the turf all winter and kills what is under it.

West Georgia oaks drop heavy and they drop late, and that combination is what makes leaf season here more work than people expect.

Why leaving them down is worse than it looks

A dry scatter of leaves is harmless. The problem is what happens after the first good rain: they flatten into a wet, airtight mat welded to the turf. Under that mat the grass gets no light and no airflow, the ground stays permanently damp, and you get the conditions for fungal disease. Come spring you find bare, slimy patches in exactly the shapes the leaf piles were.

It is worse on fescue, which is actually trying to grow through the cool months and needs light to do it. Warm-season grass going dormant is more forgiving, but a heavy mat still holds moisture against the crowns all winter, and it makes a good home for voles.

Timing is the whole game

The single most common mistake is one big cleanup in early November. Around here the trees are not done in early November. Water oaks and willow oaks hold their leaves stubbornly and keep letting go well into winter, so an early cleanup means you pay to look at a clean yard for about ten days.

In practice most properties need more than one pass across the season — something during the heavy drop to stop it matting, and a proper final clear once the canopy is genuinely bare. How many depends entirely on what is over your yard. A place with two mature oaks is a different job from a place with nine.

Pine is its own thing. Pine straw sheds through the year rather than in one autumn dump, and unlike leaves it does not smother turf the same way — it is more of a problem in thegutters than on the grass.

What I clear

The lawn, obviously. But also the places leaves actually cause damage and that get skipped: out of the shrub beds and against the foundation plantings, off the walks and the drive, out from behind the AC unit, and off the roof valleys and gutters where they end up anyway.

That last one is the reason leaf removal and gutters belong in the same visit. The leaves in the trough came off the same tree that covered the lawn, and clearing one without the other means the next rain washes the problem straight back down onto what I just cleaned.

Getting on the list

Fall is compressed — everybody wants this done in the same few weeks, which is just the nature of it. If you know you will need it, call before the drop starts rather than after your yard has disappeared.

Fall work around Carrollton

Leaf removal is the anchor of the fall round, but it is rarely the only thing a property needs going into winter.

It goes hand in hand withgutter cleaning, and it is a sensible moment for a hardcut back on shrubs and for refreshingmulch on the beds before the cold. Plenty of customers have me do the lot in one trip.

Quickest way to get an answer is to call. If it is after hours or you would rather write it out, send the form and I will get back to you.
